2017 Meanmouth Cabernet Sauvignon
Appellation:
Diamond Mountain, Napa Valley
Growing season notes:
A very wet start to this growing season evolved into a mild spring and very warm summer. Our grapes were handpicked pre-dawn on September 8 at a Brix of 26.3. Thankfully, we were barreled down before the Tubbs Fire hit the valley on October 8.
Winemaking notes:
After the pick, the fruit was hand sorted then fermented in a stainless tank. Post-primary fermentation it was barreled down to 20% new and 80% two-year-old French oak barrels to complete malolactic fermentation. It was aged 20 months in barrel, bottled in June of 2019, and laid down for another 20 months to mature. 240 cases produced.
Tasting notes:
Our 2017 Diamond Mountain has a beautiful deep purple hue which forecasts a plusher, fruit-forward style than other recent vintages. It is extremely well structured with bright aromatics on the nose, and notes of black cherry, dark plum, and cocoa on the palate.
Wine Spectator 93 Points
“Offers a wave of warm cassis, plum and blackberry fruit that splays out gently, pulling light juniper and bramble hints along. A subtle mineral tug and fresh acidity through the finish keeps this nicely grounded." -JM
