2018 Meanmouth Cabernet Sauvignon
Appellation:
Diamond Mountain, Napa Valley
Growing season notes:
2018 was a near-perfect growing season. An abundance of early rain led to a very even, warm summer, without any significant heat spikes which allowed for very balanced ripening. We handpicked on September 17 at a Brix of 23.9.
Winemaking notes:
After the pick, the fruit was hand sorted then fermented in a stainless tank. Post-primary fermentation it was barreled down to 20% new and 80% two-year-old French oak barrels to complete malolactic fermentation. It was aged 20 months in barrel, and laid down for another 20 months to mature. 394 cases produced.
Wine Spectator 93 Points
“Offers lots of richly textured mulberry and loganberry fruit flavors that cruise through, laced liberally with violet, melted licorice and acai berry notes to boot. The long finish has a buried cast iron edge for spine, while the fruit keeps the upper hand.” -JM
Wine Enthusiast 94 Points
“Inviting in dark berry, dark chocolate and cassis, this is a grippy wine still youthfully tannic and tight, with secondary notes of graphite, chalk and herbal undertones. Complex, the wine offers structure within a concentrated body of weight and ripeness, and is rich yet refined.” -V.B.
