2018 Seven Pillars Syrah, Jess' Block

$70.00

Appellation:
Fort Ross-Seaview, Sonoma Coast

Growing season notes:
2018 was a near-perfect growing season. An abundance of early rain led to a very even, warm summer, without any significant heat spikes which allowed for very balanced ripening. We handpicked on September 30 at 22.9 Brix.

Winemaking notes:
Our 2018 Syrah went through 35% whole-cluster fermentation. We continued to use the classic French pigeage a pied (foot-tread) method to submerge the must into the wine during primary fermentation of the whole cluster berries. The juice was barreled down to ~40% new Hungarian barrels, contributing some roundness and spiciness through malolactic fermentation. It was aged for 20 months in barrel, and laid down for another 20 months to mature. 374 cases produced.

Wine Enthusiast 94 Points

“…this is a bright, balanced and intriguing coastal wine, brimming in garrigue, tree bark and lavender. It offers a wealth of blueberry, cranberry and pomegranate flavors, coming off as crisp and complex, with a well-defined tannin structure and integrated oak.” V.B.
